Isn’t it IPA Day EVERY day?

It’s International IPA Day, but this iconic hoppy beer is celebrated every day at Ludlow Brewery. IPA stands for India Pale Ale, and this beer style is observed on the first Thursday each August to increase the appreciation of this gorgeous brew – as if an excuse is needed!
We have three tasty IPAs on tap to toast the occasion……
Our award-winning Blonde is a session IPA with a vibrant citrus flavour profile and light floral aroma. Refreshing and hoppy with a pleasing bitterness, and just 4.0% ABV it’s the perfect pint on a summer's day.
We also have two cold hazy specials on pour, from Derailed by Ludlow Brewery, which are truly modern juicy-style IPAs that are definitely more-ish: Grapefruit Idaho (Idaho-7 updated with an infusion of real grapefruit ) and Presley Squash (exclusively on keg in our taproom).
Did you know how India Pale Ale got its name? Brits living in India during the late 18th Century missed beer back home. The exported ale had more hops added so that it would better survive the long sea voyage, as hops are a natural preservative. By 1860, IPA was widely brewed in England, but had lost popularity across the world by the 20th Century. The IPA’s big comeback is credited to Californian microbreweries in the 1970s. The modern New England, hazy style IPA, was created relatively recently, within the last 20 years.
